We didn’t meet in a boardroom or at a networking event—we met on a job site.

Vance built Brian’s home in Austin, and what started as a client–builder relationship quickly turned into a friendship.  Throughout the process, there was a shared appreciation for quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and doing things the right way.  By the time the house was complete, it was clear there was something bigger there than just a finished project.

Vance comes from a career in high-end custom homebuilding, where precision, durability, and architectural detail are non-negotiable.  He’s built some of the most beautiful homes in the Austin area and brings that same standard to every outdoor kitchen and living space we create.

Brian brings years of experience from the tech world, leading teams, managing complex projects, and building thoughtful client experiences.  His background ensures every project is organized, transparent, and delivered with professionalism from the first conversation through the final walkthrough.

Together, we founded The Grate Outdoors around a shared passion for outdoor living, cooking, and grilling—something that comes naturally in a city like Austin, where backyards are an extension of the home and gathering outdoors is part of everyday life.  From weeknight grilling to hosting friends on long Texas evenings, we design and build spaces meant to be used, enjoyed, and lived in.  Every project reflects that belief, combining craftsmanship and planning with a genuine love for great food, great company, and life outdoors.
